Musings on Imus

By now, you should be well aware of the controversy involving talk radio host Don Imus and his ill-conceived comment regarding the Rutgers Womens basketball team and their resemblance to "nappy-headed ho's".
Actually, the "controversy" has come to a head (no pun intended); Imus has been fired from his show by CBS.
No doubt, it was a dumb comment and a poor attempt at humor.

HOWEVER...

I would like to make two observations:

1) Don't ever be taken in to think that the Mainstream Media supports "Free Speech".
What they support is what they consider to be proper speech.

2) Had Imus been young, black and angry, with his baggy shorts down around his knees, exposing his boxers for all the world to see, he would have gotten away with this and much, much worse.
In fact, he would have been offered a recording contract and copious amounts of money, had he been able to perform his comments with a 200 db bass line vibrating everything within 100 yards.

Hypocrites.

I suspect that CBS has done Imus a favor.
I expect him to sign a mega-dollar deal, in all likelihood with XM Satellite Radio to battle Sirius' Howard Stern.
Time will tell.
